World Youth Skills Day 2018

July 15 should be a very important day for young people from all over the world because this is the day that the world celebrates the World Youth Skills Day. This is the day where we can stand for our rights, make ourselves heard and spread awareness about young people and about the need to invest in youth skills development.
World`s population growth also means the growth of the number of young people in the world. This means that more and more youngsters need education, work and training. It is said that young people are more than 3 times less likely to find a job, and in case of having a job, the salary is lower and the conditions are worse. The world has addressed the problem that young people don`t have enough skills to be efficient in the labor market. The hard part is not knowing how to  solve this problem, how to give youngsters from all over the world equal possibilities and ways to put their skills into practice. All youngsters deserve the chance to discover their hidden skills and talents.
For me it is very important to try to do very many different things in my life in order to find my skills and what I`m truly passionate about. That’s why I came to be a volunteer in Greece, that’s why I have had summer jobs in many different fields. The goal is to not stop trying until you have found what you are truly passionate about.
If people in developing countries would have the same opportunities as we do in developed countries, maybe the world would be a better place. Maybe we would know how to cure cancer, how to bring world peace and how to reduce hunger. It is necessary to give young people skills, they are our future and they all deserve the chance to change the world.

Youth Skills day

Young people today are three times more likely to be unemployed than adults. In addition, they are exposed to low-skilled jobs, greater inequality in the labor market and more insecurity in the transition from the academic world to work. In that sense, young women are more likely to be unemployed and with lower wages than men, with partial contracts being the most widespread, that is why education and training are decisive for success in the labor market. But, unfortunately, existing educational systems are not there to address the learning needs of many young people. The results of the studies that have been conducted on this gap indicate that a large number of young people have low levels of performance in basic skills.
Therefore, July 15th is World Youth Skills Day, and the United Nations celebrates this day with a special event on the theme of "Developing skills to improve youth employment." Understanding what works to support youth young people in the labor market today and tomorrow.                                                                                                                                            Brian Javier Rodriguez Gomez
