The Village of the stars

Ano Vrounto, or how I called it, The Village of the Stars, hosted the last weekend the Astrovradia Festival in his 11 th edition.
We got the invitation from Tasos, the manager of the festival, to go there and support their work. We didn´t know how great would be the experience, and it was awesome!
We went there on Friday and we noticed how beautiful the village and the area is. Surrounded by mountains, the road trip was amazing. We could breath fresh air and we just enjoyed and felt the power of the nature.
Just the first evening, we had the pleasure to met Alexia, our own greek guide, who is an incredible person. She was all the weekend take care of us. We just have thanks words for her.
When we arrive almost everything was ready in the church´s square for the open night party. Yes, party!! we started the weekend dancing typical  greek dances with ours news friends.
The next day, on Saturday, was time to work. But first we enjoyed the best coffee ever in the terrace table of our hostel. The best coffee ever with the best views ever!!
Already in the field, we put the chairs, the tables and everything we needed to have a great night. We also had time to see the sun with the special telescope of our friend.
When the festival started, around 09:00 pm, we were in the entrance with our lovely friend Alexia, helping her with the tickets, give to the people posters, books, etc. Everyone from the village were there and all of them enjoyed the event, under thousands stars.
But the night didn´t finish there. After the Festival, we got an invitation to go to one restaurant where we ate, danced and knew new people. Just the Retsina knows how the night end.
The next morning, on Sunday, and after a strong coffee, we went again to the field to collect all the stuff. After that, we went to the same restaurant as the night before where Veta, the owner, was waiting to give us the best veggie lunch ever with the most fresh vegetables and the tastiest fried zuchini ever. This lady is awesome and after 1 minute talking, we fell in love with her.
It was an amazing weekend for all of us and we just have to say thank you for everyone and for everything and...We are not portuguese!!!

Second chapter dóra talks about evs

I was helping to the others to write their own blogpost about theirselves, and in the meantime I realised maybe I should write a new one after all these months that have passed by.
A lot of things happened as it is normal in the real life speacially when you participate in an EVS program where you always have different kind of events around you.
All of us agreed that we got lazy when the summer heat arrived to Greece. We always wanted to sleep, and we lost our motivation about doing serious stuff, and of course we were more alive in the nights which means we were partying almost every night.
July started in a bit other perspective. We went for the on-arrival training in Athena for one week and there we got our motivation back in a way.
Specially me, I felt that it is good what we are doing right now and we have "free hands" to build the project and lead it as we would like to have it. I always say, you can not help every time to the people to find their motivation, everyone has to find it theirselves, but of course we are here to support, and help each other.
So in this case we got back to Serres and who were the most motivated ones set down and made a list from our goals. Why did we come here? What are our goals? What are our goals for the month of August?
It's so easy and obviously to do such a thing, and maybe looks sometimes useless thing, but it's not at all. It leads us all the month, and anytime when we feel bit desperate we can check out our list.
My sending organization (Fiatalok a Vidékért Egyesület), when I came here advised me to write down the things that I would like to do it meanwhile I'm in EVS, because it can happen that life leads you to another way.
All after I would like to say thank you, because I've checked back my ideas lately and it made me remind why am I here exactly.
I have plans in my mind how to make this project even better, I've already shared it with my volunteer mates and I've just felt the greatest subsidization from them as always.
Right now I can only say it's been nice to feel more european, and keep in tuned for the next happenings!

English Teacher Training

Picture

On the 14-15th of August we participated in a training - How to teach English to the refugees  in Thessaloniki.

On the first day we were at the Blue Refugee Center, on the second day our training was at the Help Refugees Warehouse in Thessaloniki.
Both of the places were amazing. It was really interesting to see, how many people work on to help the refugees via teaching them languages, providing services, spending common time with them, or collecting clothes and hygiene items, organise it, and deliver it, or cook for them every day.
Our trainer was Julietta Schoenmann, she was an amazing trainer, full with energy. She gave us the perfect methods how to teach the refugees, how to cooperate with them in the lessons that we give them.
We learned how to prepare our lesson plans, what are the main issues in the class room.

She showed us  how can we manage the lessons with low cost materials, or even without them.
She gave us the opportunity to micro-teach - to put all our learnings into practice right away. We had twenty minutes to prepare for a ten minutes lesson. It was nice to try out what we had learned before, and discuss after what we did good, or either bad.
In the training even it was 2 days we managed to gain a lot of knowledge from Julietta and all we can say is just thanks for her.

Cristo EVS feelings

When I came to Greece the first thing I thought was “this is gonna be a good experience” and certainly it has been. At least the first two months have been.
I help the people in our Info Center office to the refugees with the computers, and make broadcast with the other volunteers about our experiences.
I have met really good people here, and it is nice to work with them.
But with the time I have started to feel empty , and it feels like I don’t do much here, and I just play to be a good in another way. I feel by the time I got lazy and if I even try to look for some new activities that make me feel like the same as I was before. I want to think that is it only a bad mood months.
I feel the refugees feel it, because I always offer my help to everybody, but then they ask someone else help. It makes me feel useless.
I hope I can manage to be again the same, active person who I was before. I know EVS is about learn from ourselves, and here are with me the other volunteers who can help me a lot, I hope.

I have a lot of months in front of me and I want to continue help all the people.
