A future in an urbanized world

31/10/2018

Cities worldwide are growing constantly and urban areas often have a big effect on a countries economy. But why do people want to live in a city? There are for sure different reasons depending on the situation people live in. The probably biggest reason for people to move to a city is the hope of finding better living conditions in general, specified to find a job and to take advantage of the economic benefits in the area. The problem is that the big movement of people often ends up in a social disaster. Social disparities, poverty, and increasing violence are the consequences that  follow the big movement of people to the urban areas.
In addition environmental problems like air pollution and waste pollution are coursed by the big amount of people living in a city.

Therefore it is important to think about sustainable methods to act against these problems. Especially us, the young people and the youth of the society should be aware of the problems that are already existing and be cautious of the upcoming problems in the near future.

There are already visions and projects that we can take as an example to be visionary and make the world a better place. Vertical farming and urban gardening are examples for this sustainable development.
Probably the growth of cities and urban areas will continue in the future and it is not unrealistic that in the end of this century, nearly every person in the world will live in an urban area.
That’s why the World Cities Day is a really good opportunity to make people aware of the current and future development of the global situation.

World day for audiovisual heritage

26/10/2018

Comments

27th October is the World Day for Audiovisual Heritage.

Audiovisual heritage is very important for the society and the history, because we can learn a lot from the past and use this knowledge to make a better future.

Sometimes an event when it is currently going on, we don't feel the importance of it - or not as much as it effects the following happenings. After the World War 2, a new historical trend became alive - the oral history. And why is it related with the audiovisual heritage? The oral history is based on personal experiences, and to save all these experiences, many-many audiovisual equipments were needed.

And if you just think about your personal life - it is just so easy to grab your phone and take a photo or a video during an event and to save it for the future. Do not you think that it's also an important part of the audiovisual heritage? It is!

The Importance of a United World

The United Nations (UN) Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force in 1945 of the UN Charter.
But first, what is the UN Charta and what does it include? And why is it that important?

First of all the UN Charta is the fundamental treaty of the United Nations which is an intergovernmental organization existing of nowadays 193 member states. The United Nations itself is tasked to promote international co-operation and to fight for human rights and higher standards of living. All these tasks are hold on to the UN Charter in detail.
So back to the questions in the beginning, why is the UN Charta important?
In general it guarantees human rights of citizens and fundamental freedoms in the member states. Furthermore it forces the member states to promote the human rights in other nonmember states and to fight for freedom for all without distinction as to sex, race, language or religion.

In my opinion the United Nations Day let us thinking about what we achieved till today according to human rights, equality of gender and acceptance of different types of religion and culture but also what we still have to work on and what we have to fight against like for example racism, violence and poverty.

My experience with FARE in Mediart

Picture
The last week we dedicated to the FARE Football People Action Weeks . We organized many different events to promote the cause, connect people and fight racism.
We attended a Match of Panseiakos, the local Team of Serres, where we promoted our cause with the help of Refugee children. We also had an open Football Training in the central park of Serres to prepare for the big football match we had. Furthermore we held a FIFA tournament, had a movie night and educated a class of primary school kids on football and racism.

We reached people in and around Serres with our actions and our message to unite people under the banner of football.
Together we fight against racism, sexism, homophobia and hate.

Throught the lens

23/10/2018

Comments

As a photographer. An amateur photographer or as just on ordinary photographer. Everyone sees the people throught the lens. We didnt see the people as people anymore we see them as an object for the picture and dont get me wrong I dont want to be rude but I know its a little harsh. But as a photographer I learnt throught the years that it is not about the people age, gender or race its about what they do and I use that eyesight in my regular life now too. Because if a person is kind, loving, caring and respects you it doesnt matter the things we see it matters the things we feel about them and about ourself. In my opinion the world would be such greater if we wouldnt use our eyes just our heart for people.
And you get it Im not writing about taking photos anymore. We shoudnt judge a people by his or her appearence more about the actions they make and how great their heart is.

So when we held the football tournament in here Serres and I was the photographer I didnt see the persons’ appearence, I dindt see the persons’ race or gender I just saw how much they are enyoing playing together and they cared so much about the other person they dont know or the rival team. Because it is what we all should be doing. Care for the others.

There are so many of us but we shoud be one.

Tolerance in practice

20/10/2018

Comments

Well, we hear the word 'tolerance' every day; we tend to think about ourselves that we are tolerant - but is it that easy when it comes to practice?

Most of us would even have hard time if they had to answer the question - what does tolerance mean? I think there is no universal answer - since we are different, we have different ways to think about tolerance. Well, there is a definition, but my opinion is that definitions are just theory and can be even useful when you suffer with writing with your thesis, but that is all.

The important thing is that how you experience and live all those moments that were given to you. And why would you do this in ignorance and discrimination? It may sound cheesy or naive for the first reading, because everyone has negative feelings from the past - we had been hurt by many kinds of people, regardless any features of them. If you look back at your past, you have two options:
- you can live in your past, and let all those things influence your behavior
- or you can let all those bad memories go, and concentrate on the present happiness.
Picture

After this very first step, you can start thinking even further - what can I do for a better future? How can I improve my tolerant-self?
Yeah, it probably sounds pretty worn-out - the "learning-by-doing" method; but for becoming more tolerant and accepting, believe me, this is the BEST WAY EVER!
Do not let the trendy ideas interfere your plan - most of the popular vlogs/blogs/etc. say that you have to travel through the world to find your broad-mind, but there are way much easier opportunities to succeed!

What do you need to achieve your dream goal?

-An event organised in order to raise awareness of tolerance
-A huge amount of curiosity
-Being open-minded
-Smile! :)

If you made it until this point, you may have a question on your mind - what is after reaching my goal? I am really sorry to tell you, but you cannot really achieve it fully. Why? Because you will be craving for more and more!

According to Edina

This #FootballPeople campaign from #Farenet made me think more about all forms of discrimination and racism, how I see these things. I came to a conclusion that often I made a mistake thinking others see the world as I do. I think racism and discrimination is a silly thing, yet I've realised that this is still a big issue which needs more attention and we have to give that attention to this until we reach that point this problem is non existent anymore. One important thing to do is to talk to children about this because they are our future. We have to show them at an early age that we are equal. They will grow up with this idea, they will transfer this belief to their kids and then we will be able to erase even just the thought of racism and discrimination once and for all. With a little bit more commitment I really belive this is possible.
Not just during these action weeks I saw how the children are innocent in their way of thinking. On Fridays we always go to the Central park to play some outdoor activities, most of the times we play football with our friends from the refugee camp. It is really heartwarming to see that local kids start to gather around the field to watch us play and eventully they join us making the teams bigger and bigger. And why? Because they don’t see colour, nationality or anything they just see people playing football and having fun. It is simply wonderful to see and experience. I am not a good player but because of this I like playing.
