It is known as “Watergate scandal” that showed the deshonest behaviour by White House. The steal made that the american society saw by the first time how a President of the United States of America renounced and automatically the nacional policy.
The finding
June 17, 1972, the police arrested five mens that they try to steal and brought documents in the Watergate building in Washington. One of these men was James McCord, he was the Nixon´s security boss. The suspects were found with a different articles, including tools to force the door lock, 100 dollars with sequence series and a device to intercept police’s calls, suggested The Washington Post.
The White House distanced itself from the thieves and at the begin of the Nixon case was not involved. He was chosen to be President four years more but few months after Congres’s journalists and researchers began to research each detail of the steal and finally, The White House was involved.

Carl Bernstein and Bob Woodward were working like journalists in The Washington Post and they started to research thanks a piece of certain information gave by “Deep Throat”. Today we know that this source was Mark Felt, a great FBI official. After a couple of months, the burglars declared guilty and they were condemned by conspiracy and other charges.
The renounce
People began to ask for celebrating judgment to Nixon and the White House accepted to give some recordings but one of them had 18 minutes less. In April of 1974, the White House published more than 1,200 pages with edited transcriptions of this tapes. But they refused to give the real tapes.
The Supreme Court of United States of America ordered the White House to deliver each tape. Nixon published the tapes, including "The Smoking Gun". This could demonstrate that Nixon tried to use CIA to lock FBI investigation about steal.
The tape connected directly with Nixon and the support in the Congress disappear. Nixon decided to resigned in august. However, Nixon never admitted his involvement with the steal.
The forgiveness
Gerald Ford was elected immediately as President after Nixon´s exit. He said: "This large national nightmare has finished". One month later, the new President forgave Nixon.
