The coordinator of the project Ioulia Eleftheriadou was born in the close-by town Sidirokastro in Greece and is now studying Architecture with the other students. She and her father came up with the idea of building a small shelter for cave explorers, so they would not have to stay in hotels anymore and making it a more attractive place for speleologists.
Standing on the terrace of the shelter, one has a beautiful view on the valley and the setting sun. It provides three beds and the upper level can be used as storage. There is also a changing room and place for a table, the dining room. During the presentation on Friday, Ioulia explained the project, presented their university and thanked for the support they got from the community. They took care of the building material, families and taverns invited them to eat at their place, they were provided with food and shelter and people let them have their cars. Due to some issues, the university did not sponsor the project however in order to realize it, the students paid their travel expenses on their own.
The exhausting day for the students finished in a warm and cosy local tavern. The next morning, they would have to complete the shelter.
